Moderation and Banning

MODERATION

Administration and Moderators are not here to mod your OOC conflict or drama.  Our views on OOC/IC are explained in the "Etiquette" section and you should be familiar with this. We believe strongly that ICA=ICC, it is OK for individuals not to like you, and that personality conflicts will arise but it's a big sim and there are plenty of places to be to avoid an individual you do not care for. If OOC is brought IC there is a very strong likelihood that those players who were involved will be asked to adult, behave or leave the sim.

The sim Administration and Moderators when called will ask all involved players to step OOC, and to provide notecards of all relevant roleplay up to the point a call was made.  The moderators will declare a roleplay invalid if any of the involved party refuses to provide the requested notecard, if it is determined OOC has been brought IC, or if the roleplay directly violates one of the standards and guidelines that appear here.  You are responsible for making sure that you have read and understand the guidelines before you enter into roleplay.

In *all* mod calls, the moderators will refer to "Tribesmen of Gor" and to the common and accepted standards of by the book Gor to make the most informed decision possible. Once a decision has been rendered, a summary of that decision and the notecards will be sent to all other moderators and the administration, so that all relevant parties are informed of the decision.

Players who wish to argue with a decision, or who are intent on causing further disruption will be immediately banned for 24 hours.  In short, the moderators word is final and all moderators and administration members will be aware of that decision.  The administration has placed their trust in the person who has been chosen as a mod, and that decision will not be overturned because the players involved did not care for the final outcome.

BANNING

The types of behavior that will get you banned from the sim are listed below.

*Improper use of the Raid Teleport - this is a big no-no.  The raid teleport is for raid only.  Using the teleport itself will trigger the alarm. It is the administrators opinion that anyone improperly using the raid teleport should be treated as hostile and should consider possible consequences of their actions before doing so.

First Offense - The administrators and moderators assume that this is an accident and you get a pass.

Second Offense - The administrators and Moderators assume that you cannot read English or that your actions are deliberate.  You will be banned.

* Violation of LL TOS, including harassment, griefing, stalking of another player, etc.
* Player Abuse - This includes spamming another person(s) with vulgar, hateful or offensive messages either IC or OOC, thought emotes, in open chat and private messages.
* Repeated violation of Sim Standards and Guidelines
* Metagaming & Godmodding
* Misuse of Alts (we do allow alts as long as the sim administration is informed of who the alt is)
* Behavior deemed by at least two mods or administration members to be disruptive to the entirety of the sim
* OOC conflict brought IC
* Insulting or arguing in group chat with group members

First Offense - Banning from the sim, which may last for a short period of time, or could be indefinite depending upon the action that led to the banning and reporting to Linden Labs.

Second Offense - Permanent Ban

Assassin

Assassins are a part of Gor but not mentioned in the book "Tribesmen of Gor".  Refer to the guidelines below if hunting.

Teehra

BLACK CASTE LAWS
<<------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->>
Updated 10/5/2016

Off sim OOC BC Moderator:    Dagik (Kerok Toxx)

Teehra Administration Team:

As such, we are trying a new approach.  These revised rules have been discussed at length with our Off sim BC Moderator as well as several other veteran BC players who serve in BC Moderator positions on other sims.

The significant change is that we are no longer going to provide for OOC client anonymity.  The   un-redacted client meeting and Hunt Log will be provided to the mark following the 24 hour meter death if requested.  The BC's RP will be validated separately from the Client's.  Both will be necessary for the mark to have been killed validly IC.  If there is substantive evidence of OOC client motive at that point, admin action may be taken, just as it would be in any other circumstance of metagaming

Should a client's motives be revealed to be OOC, the kill will be invalidated, allowing the mark to proceed in their RP as if it never happened.  As long as the BC's RP adhered to the rules, their reputation will not suffer nor will it affect their ability to hunt in Teehra in the future.

Assassins will need to make clients aware of this OOC before the contract is accepted, and clients should understand that they may be asked to provide proof of IC motivation for the contract.  They should also be made aware that should the mark produce OOC drama or retaliatory metagaming, it will be dealt with swiftly as per sim rules. It is a bannable offense.

We realize this is a sea change, and that it may not solve these problems, but in the interest of
improving the roleplay experience for all players which includes fair moderation for all players,
we're going to give it a try.  We hope that you understand and invite you to work with us on this
endeavor.

BEFORE THE HUNT

·       In order for any player in the role of a Black Caste Assassin to hunt in Teehra, certain OOC criteria must be met:

·       →  AVATARS must meet the minimum age of at least six (6 months) old, must be male, and must follow appropriate avatar dress and appearance guidelines for Gorean roleplay.

·       →  RULES:  Assassins should read and understand all sim rules.  Black Caste Rules deal specifically with the procedure for hunting in Teehra, but Assassins will be expected to comply with all sim rules and approved weapons.

·       →  APPROVAL:  Prior to hunting in Teehra, the Assassin is required to contact a Sim Administrator and the Off sim BC Moderator to get approval to hunt in Teehra.  Those who are unknown in BC RP circles or whohave a dubious track record may, at the discretion of the Off sim BC Moderator and Admins, be denied permission to hunt or kill a mark in Teehra.

  • ·       You do not need to reveal any further information about the client nor the mark at this time to anyone, nor will your presence/purpose be revealed beyond the Admin team and Off sim BC Mod.
  • ·       Special permission must be obtained from the Off sim BC Moderator and Sim Admin Team if more than one Assassin is knowingly hired to kill the same target.  The Assassin must include the roleplay bringing the other Assassins into the hunt in the Hunt Log.
  • ·       An Assassin may not complete more than two contract per month in Teehra, though they may be part of a group hunt at the discretion of the Admin Team and Off sim BC Moderator.
  • ·       Contracts may be passed from one Assassin to another, and the roleplay of such must be included in the Hunt Log.

DURING THE HUNT

→   LIVERY & MARK:  Approved Assassins wearing the black habiliments of their caste and who display the mark of the dagger on their forehead will be permitted to enter the village, keep their bows, and in general be left alone to do their work.  If the Assassin wears a helmet or other garment that obscures the mark, they may be asked to show it by any citizen.

Assassins in livery who are not clearly marked or whose mark is obscured may be stopped and asked to reveal their mark at any time; however, it is acceptable for Assassins to use their meter label to clarify their mark's visibility if it is reasonable to do so given their attire.

→   DISGUISES:  Approved Assassins may conduct all phases of their hunt in disguise, including thekill phase.  Disguises should be logical and fall within the acceptable bounds of BTB Gorean RP.

Believability of your disguise is dependent as much or more on your roleplay as the way you dress your avatar.  Realistic, convincing roleplay is expected.

If hunting in disguise, Assassins cannot expect to have the immunity of a marked Assassin such as being able to retain their bows at the gate, and they will still need to reveal their mark to their target before the kill.

Assassins in disguise when doing the actual kill must have the mark clearly visible to the victim at the time of the kill ((marked assassin)) on your meter at the time of the kill is acceptable for visual clarity.

It is not acceptable to join any group of Teehra in the course of a BC hunt, even as part of a disguise.

Group membership provides OOC advantages, will be considered metagaming, and your hunt
invalidated.

→   DURATION OF HUNT:  In order to support a more positive roleplay experience, a valid hunt must take place over 3 days (72 hours) , after which the mark may be killed at the soonest opportunity.

If the mark is an Teehra resident or citizen, at least two of the three days of the hunt must take place in Teehra.  If a portion of the hunt takes place elsewhere, the Assassin is still required to contact the Teehra Off-sim BC Mod and Administrator to seek approval prior to beginning the hunt.

If the mark is not a resident or citizen of Teehra belonging to its main group, the hunt may take place in any location as long as it meets the other criteria.

THE KILL PHASE

→   Once an Assassin has confirmed the mark's identity via role-play and completed a 3-day hunt, the Assassins can attack their mark whenever the opportunity presents itself.  No 30-minute rule applies.

→    REVEALING THE MARK:  Prior to attacking the mark, the Assassin must reveal their mark to their target in an emote of at least fifteen (15) words.

If the Assassin has been hunting in disguise, they may complete the kill in disguise, but must be marked and must reveal the mark at the time of the kill prior to engaging in meter combat.

→    KILLING BLOW: This must be a minimum of three (3) descriptive posts of at least (15) words, after which the kill button on the meter may be clicked.

→    LEAVING THE KILL:  Following the assassination attempt, the Assassin must make their way to either the raid dock or the RP dock to emote leaving Teehra with one (1) post of at least ten (10) words in length.

If the Assassin fails to make the kill, having to abort the attempt after the attack has started, they may try again to complete the kill or may pass the contract as long as they successfully leavethe sim through the method described above.

If the Assassin has completed the kill but is captured or killed on his way to the exit, that does not invalidate the assassination, assuming everything else would have been otherwise valid.

MODERATOR REVIEW

→    HUNT LOGS:  Hunt logs must be complete and submitted to the Offsim BC Moderator in a timely manner or the kill may be ruled invalid.  The BC Moderator has up to 24 hours to review the HuntLogs and determine if the kill was valid.

→    RULES:  A valid kill may not have any portion of the hunt record in violation of any Teehra sim rule, up to and including the BC rules and combat rules.

→    BC MODERATOR RULING:  The review of the Hunt Logs by the Offsim BC Moderator will be done in a timely fashion, and he will issue a ruling the validity of the BC's roleplay.  If all requirements are met and no rules broken, the BC's RP will be considered valid.  Once the mark is provided with the un-redacted logs and is able to provide a sim admin with substantive evidence that there is OOC motive and/or lack of IC motive, the admin team will investigate further in conjunction with the BCModerator.  Should it be proven that the client has no valid IC motivation, the mark will not need to honor the death.

→    METER DEATH:   Anyone killed on Teehra must accept the meter death, which on Teehra is 24 hours. Should the kill be ruled invalid, a Moderator will allow them to reset their meter.

AFTER THE KILL

→    If a kill is successful and valid, the target will be "dead" and ghosted on the meter for 24 hours as per sim rules.

→    24 hours after the kill, the BC Moderator may provide the mark with the complete, unredacted Hunt Log if it is requested.  The Hunt Log is purely OOC information and while it may be used to make OOC decisions about roleplay, it is not information that can be used in roleplay for any reason, including metagaming or reprisals.  Doing so is a bannable offense.

If the mark can present substantive evidence that would inavalidate the client's IC motivation and provide OOC motive, that should be presented to the BC Moderator at this time as an appeal.  The client may be asked by the moderation team to provide proof of IC motivation.

→    The mark may choose a variety of ways to deal with his or her death in roleplay.  This is entirely their choice as a role player.  What they absolutely may not do is seek any reprisals on the client or the Assassin.  Some of the options for dealing with the assassination include:

- Permanently kill off your character.  You may choose to reuse the avatar and give it a new name, history, and clothing, and retire the old character permanently.  This is a "clean slate."
- Temporarily "kill" the character, only remaining "dead" to the client and Assassin.  Thismeans that client and that Assassin may not pursue further RP with your character, including another contract for any reason.  This may "incapacitate" your character and after the 24 hour meter death, and play the assassination off as an attack in which you sustained grievous injuries that robbed your memory of any knowledge that would involve reprisals.

Raids

Raid Information

Roleplay based raids are encouraged, and will be reciprocated once we are open for raids. Please read our combat rules carefully, they are not the standard norm. Because our market gates are open raids will require three entry posts. Ideally these posts will be made by the person in charge of the raid. Only one voice will be recognized, that will be the first voice used and that person is responsible for ensuring three entry posts before entering the city. The need for posts removes the need to make you stand there and wait "X" number of minutes before entering.  There are no minimum word requirements but please use a complete sentence. Example: 1) "Looks to the men that I have brought with me. " 2). Calls out "Men arm up!" 3) "To Glory!" runs towards the gates.

Raid Ratio: 1:1

Raids at a Glance

  1. Moderation will be kept to a minimum. Try to keep your roleplay plausible, be fair and have fun.  When all else fails use the books as your guide--if it's not found in the books, and a mod needs to be called, chances are very likely it will be ruled invalid.
  2. Anyone not wishing to actively participate in raids can do so by not wearing a meter or moving inside and placing themselves in "OOC/AWAY" status until the raid has ended.
  3. Our women and slaves can and will defend their home. Women and slaves who arrive with you are subject to being captured.
  4. During real time combat or raid scenarios, the need for stopping to "post" is an excuse to add "role-play". The GM meter already has time sinks built into it for certain actions for fairness of play.  As such, the  posting requirements that you find on other  BTB SIMs are not required here, with the exceptions listed below.
Roleplay actions that require one or more emotes during a raid include:
  • DISARMING will require ONE EMOTE per item of ten words, because of the time it can take, disarming during a raid is discouraged.
  • INTENT TO REMOVE CAPTIVE FROM SIM must also be emoted, and must include captives name and the location where the captive will be taken and kept.
  • KILLS that occur during raids  will not be recognized as an actual death.  The person will instead be injured seriously enough to render them unconscious. TWO EMOTES are required to render a player unconscious during a raid.  The injured party will revive after an hour and will be required to seek medical attention--this includes raiders as well as defenders.  You must include the name of the person in at least one emote. You must give an indication as to the type of injury the player experienced.
  • A rescue attempt will be mounted within 24 hours of a captive leaving the sim.  No attempt will begin until a reasonable by the book ransom has been sent to the sim and the sim has had an opportunity to respond.  Ransoms are only to be paid in by the book, reasonable, NON-linden trade items. Within the first 24 hours of captivity no free person will be forced into a collar nor can any captive be killed. The only time a kill will be recognized is if the behavior of the captive was so heinous or against the books that a kill was necessary- both parties will need to provide scripts.
  • Captives can only be taken to a sim that will reciprocate our rules, or are recognized and raidable BTB sims. Captives *may* roleplay an escape, or will need to be returned to sim at the end of four days (remember the first 24 hours will be a waiting period--this allows three days of extensive RP). Captives may elect to extend captures for the good of a storyline and will communicate that to the Admins & Moderators. We recognize that downtimes do occur on sims-escape attempts will not be valid nor recognized if there is no active roleplay on sim at the time the attempt occurs. In other words, if there is no witness, it cannot be validated.

Complete Raid Rules

Rules, standards of conducts and or guidelines cannot possibly cover every minutia of roleplay, so we ask you to fall back on common sense as your guide.  Try to keep your roleplay plausible, be fair and have fun.  When all else fails use the books as your guide--if it's not found in the books, and a mod needs to be called, chances are very likely it will be ruled invalid.

*******ONLY RP MODS OR ADMINISTRATORS MAY DECLARE RP INVALID*****

WE would like to keep moderation to a minimum. Always try to resolve any issues yourself before calling a Moderator.   DO NOT declare a combat or role-play invalid and take it upon yourself to make the resolution to it.  If you are calling a Moderator, you and the persons involved will be removed from Combat until the issue is settled. Other Role-players will Continue in Roleplay.

In the event a moderator is required, notecard the situation.  Be prepared to have the exact rule that has been broken available. We prefer not to moderate your roleplay in-character actions. IF a mod is contacted for an IC situation--be prepared for IC consequences.  All actions will be invalidated if meta gaming or god-moding are discovered.

NON-COMBATANTS - Anyone not wishing to actively participate in raids can do so by not wearing a meter or moving inside and placing themselves in "OOC/AWAY" status until the raid has ended. At that time, you can put your meter back on and continue roleplay as normal.  If you choose not to participate during the raid, you cannot participate as a member of the rescue group.

CHEATING - We all know what it is and how it is done.  No jumping or flying, no teleporting in after the raid has started,  no speed enhancers, displacers, attack huds, weapons that continue to do damage after an individual has been bubbled, or anything else widely considered a "cheat" The consequences of cheating and being caught will affect your entire group.  First offense- a slap on the wrist and a warning not to do it again.  Second offense? Your group is no longer welcome to raid, skirmish, kidnap or capture from our sim. You are urged to police your own, before it becomes necessary for us to do so.

SLAVES/FREE WOMEN - Our women and slaves can and will defend their home. They are limited to the following weapons: dagger, poisoned pins, whips, sticks, stones, fists, brooms, or any other weapon on the allowed list which do appropriate damage and have administrative approval. They are not allowed to openly attack.

Women and slaves who arrive with you are subject to being captured. They may be enslaved, held for a reasonable BTB ransom, or impaled,  they may even be invited for an extended visit.  You are discouraged from placing the women and slaves of your home in such a perilous position, but if you need to, understand the consequences of doing so.

FIGHTING SLAVES - Fighting slaves are trained fighters and have the approval of Teehra to defend their owners and their cities.  a weapon will be handed to them in the event of a raid IF it is known they have permission to do so from their owners.  It is the owners responsibility to inform the city officials of their slaves ability to fight, and consent. The rules regarding killing during a raid apply to them as well. Because permission to handle weapons is a given, they are exempt from the the usual punishment of death for attacking a free as a result of the raid. If a fighting slave is caught on that raid by the raiders he may be killed.

RAID

Raids or skirmishes by definition are hostile or aggressive actions that take place within the city by those who are visiting. You must have a valid reason for the raid. If a moderator is called, you may be required to produce that reason.  If this is the start of a longer storyline, or the culmination of a storyline, try to make it part of something larger and more creative then "I'm bored, let's raid."

EMOTES: During real time combat or raid scenarios, the need for stopping to "post" is an excuse to add "role-play".

Assassins are not required to abide by this rule for contracted kills; they must be a recognized member of the Black Caste and follow Black Caste Guidelines.

CAPTURE -Captures will not be considered valid if no witness can validate it.  Roleplay is why we are here, lets do it! CAPTIVES MAY COMMIT GM METER SUICIDE--at their option--INSTEAD OF BEING TAKEN OFF-SIM--we don't condone it, but neither do we condone forcing a roleplay on someone who vehemently disagrees with it to the point they would rather suicide then commit to the roleplay. Remember--it's your character.  GM Meter suicide is a 72 hour (three day) death.  When you return you will return as someone else.

DRAGGING CAPTIVES - Dead weight is heavy - One Captive at a time - Intent must be announced via emote which includes location of where captive will be taken -No fighting - Running - Swimming- while dragging a captive.

RESCUE ATTEMPTS - A rescue attempt will be mounted within 24 hours of a captive leaving the sim.
If at any time a Free Woman loses all means of self-protection and falls prey to a Warrior or one who is stronger than she, she is said to be within the boundaries of "capture rites."

          Capture Rights

  • If she is to be held for ransom, then she retains her free status... she is not branded or collared, though depending upon the whim of her captor she might be facestripped or put to sexual use.
  • During the period of her captivity she does not refer to freemen as Master, but rather as "Captor." In some cases she is simply chained in the holding of her captor and ignored until she can be exchanged for ransom.
  • Since Free Women of high caste typically fetch a ransom equal to or in excess of their bride price, the richer and more powerful her family the greater her chance of being ransomed. For a poor Free Woman, perhaps of the peasants or a similar low caste, she can usually not expect such treatment. In such a case the Free Woman in question typically may expect nothing better than either her enslavement, if she proves to be pleasing, or her execution if she is not.

Captives can only be taken to a sim that will reciprocate our rules, or are recognized and raidable BTB sims.

SKIRMISHES

Skirmishes, are brisk and brief encounters with a specific goal in mind and are intended to enhance the aura of Teehra. The skirmish is a roleplay tool and is meant to be used as such.   Do not abuse it-it is not intended to be a tool that will allow abusive actions, nor is it a tool to be used to rape, torture or kill at whim.  If you are here to kidnap a specific person--they will be returned alive and relatively unharmed (freedom is iffy) at the end of the story.

Skirmishers will arrive at the visitor docks. The party will involve no more then three individuals.  Upon arrival, the end goal of the skirmish must be announced and it must be specific. If you have been employed to kidnap a person, that person must be named. If you have arrived to bully or harass a specific person, they too  must be named.  Raid rules apply in a skirmish.

Examples of skirmish goals include kidnapping a specific named individual, harassing a specific named person,  or theft of goods from a specific merchant or captain. No captives other then the named individual will be removed from sim. Likewise, no random willy-nilly killing of folks.  It is assumed that you A) have scouted out the location where you will be going and B) are arriving only to snatch and grab with little or no RP interaction. That being said, after you have announced your intention you are NOT required any further roleplay until you have reached the individual or item involved. Have fun and be imaginative!

Free Woman Guidelines

Norman was very clear on those behaviors that would place a woman in a position to be collared, and for the process of doing so.  For more information on behavior that will get you collared in Teehra, visit this link: To Collar or Not?

In short, there are three situations a woman may find herself in that will lead to enslavement; legal proceeding at the decree of the Magistrate or Pasha if convicted of a crime, conduct becoming a slave, or exhibiting a slave nature and capture, a woman taken when her home stone is destroyed, or as the spoil of a raid or war.

Appropriate dress -  Free women of Teehra must dress according to the ways of the Tahari. Visiting free women are strongly encouraged to dress according to the way of the Tahari or face the penalty of being enslaved due to conduct (inappropriate dress in the Tahari).

Examples of appropriate dress in the Tahari:

Gowns - also known as a dress, usually loose fitting with long sleeves and skirts.

She wore a long, bordered skirt, with scarlet thread at its hem, which swirled as she turned; she wore a jacket, tan, of soft kaiila-hair cloth, taken from the animal's second coat, which had a hood, which she had thrown back; beneath the jacket she wore a cheap, printed blouse of rep-cloth, blue and yellow, which well clung to her.~ Tribesmen of Gor
**this is speaking of Alyena who is a collared slave..but it is a great description of being fully dressed

Haik - Black, covers a woman from head to toe. At the eyes there is a tiny bit of black lace to allow vision.

The haik, black, covers the woman from head to toe. At the eyes, there is a tiny bit of black lace, through which she may see. On her feet were soft, black, nonheeled slippers with curled toes; they were decorated with a line of silver thread. ~ Tribesman of Gor

Cloak - Used to add bulk and conceal the FW's form.
Veils - Cloth worn over the face in many layers, concealing all but the eyes.

A woman, veiled, passed me. She held a baby inside her cloak, nursing it.~Tribesmen of Gor

Among the upper classes in the Tahari, it is scandalous that a woman's mouth not be concealed. "The mouth of a woman, by men of the Tahari, and by Goreans generally, is found extremely provocative, sexually.~Tribesman of Gor

Gloves

Slippers - Soft, non-heeled slippers with curled toes decorated with a line of silver thread are worn on the feet.

The haik, black, covers the woman from head to toe. At the eyes, there is a tiny bit of black lace, through which she may see. On her feet were soft, black, nonheeled slippers with curled toes; they were decorated with a line of silver thread. ~ Tribesman of Gor

Walking Chain - Used to train Women to walk with a measured gait, which is considered attractive in the Tahari.

Free women, in the Tahari, incidentally, usually, when out of their houses, also measure their stride. Some fasten their own ankles together with silken thongs. Some dare even the chain, though they retain its key. ~Tribesmen of Gor

Virgin Bell - Small cuff with an attached bell worn about the ankle of Free Woman to signify Their availability as Companions.

Free girls, not yet companions, but of an age appropriate for the companionship, sometimes signal their availability to possible swains by belling their left ankles with a single "virgin bell." The note of this bell, which is bright and clear, is easily distinguished from those of the degrading, sensual bells of the slave. ~Tribesmen of Gor

Displays of Submission or "slave like behavior, appearance or dress" - Any display of submissive 'slave-like' behavior such as kneeling in submission to a man or referring to free as Master, or inappropriate dress can cause a free woman to lose her freedom if witnessed. A case should be brought to the Administrators or city officials for hearing if in dispute.

Face Stripping -  It is illegal to face strip a woman without just cause. Gorean men pride themselves on being able to remain unaffected by the abuse of women.

Women may not openly attack - Women may not openly attack and cannot carry weapons that are inappropriate to their station in Gor.  However, you may defend yourself if necessary. To that purpose, you may practice daily in the arena in the sky.  No woman in Teehra, slave or free, should be unable to defend herself if the situation calls for it.

Rape - The rape of a free woman is a grievous offense, especially if the woman is of the same Home Stone.  The man responsible for such actions is subject to severe penalties, up to and including death. Be certain that you and the man involved are willing to share the consequences of such roleplay if it is made known.
"The rape of a free woman is a serious offense," I said. (Rogue of Gor)

"Am I to understand," asked Miles of Argentum, "that you are confessing to the rape of a free woman, one who was even a Tatrix?"
Speusippus turned white." (Kajira of Gor)

"But one can rape a free woman?"
"Surely," he said, "and the penalties for that can be grievous, particularly if a Home Stone is shared." (Kur of Gor)

"The rape of a free woman with whom one shares a Home Stone, on the other hand, is a very serious offense. Fellows have been tortured, and publicly impaled, for that sort of thing." (Mariners of Gor)

To Collar or Not?

link: http://www.gor-sl.com/index.php?topic=5606.0

What is the status of a Woman of Gor?  Is she allowed to speak her mind, argue with a man, insult him, even threaten him by thought and word?  Almost certainly. Does she face enslavement for these acts? The answer is without a doubt NO.

The books describe only three situations under which a Woman can be enslaved:
I) Legal Proceeding: (See "LEGAL EXAMPLES")
A Free Woman may be subject to enslavement by decree of a magistrate if convicted of a crime, especially repeat offenders. This can be temporary or permanent.

II) Conduct becoming of a slave (See "ACTIVITY EXAMPLES")
A Free Woman may be collared for conduct becoming of a slave, or showing an inner slave nature.

III) Capture (See "CAPTURE EXAMPLES")
A Free Woman taken when her home stone is destroyed can be enslaved by her captors.  She is often given a choice of death or enslavement. This is codified in the merchant laws as such (See Capture Examples)

*** LEGAL EXAMPLES ***
"The principle he had alluded to pertains to conduct in a free woman which is taken as sufficient to warrant her reduction to slavery. The most common application of this principle occurs in areas such as fraud or theft. Other applications may occur, for example, in cases of indigency and vagrancy. Prostitution, rare on Gor because of female slaves, is another case. The women are taken, enslaved, cleaned up and controlled. Indulgence in sensual dance is another case. Sensuous dance is almost always performed by slaves on Gor. A free woman who performs such dancing publicly is almost begging for the collar. In some cities the sentence of bondage is mandatory for such a woman."
    — Renegades of Gor, 21:372

*** ACTIVITY EXAMPLES ***
"In many cities, such actions, attempting to spy on masters and slaves, disguising oneself as a slave, garbing oneself as a slave, even in the supposed secrey of one's own compartments, lingering about slave shelves and markets, even exhibiting an interest in, or fascination with, bondage, can result in a reduction to bondage. The theory is apparently that such actions and interests are those of a slave, and that the female who exhibits them should, accordingly, be imbonded."
— Magicians of Gor, p.50

"Conduct indicating suitability for the collar, of course, can be interpreted in various ways, and more broadly and narrowly. It is almost always understood, of course, fortunately for women, and as I suppose the phrase itself makes clear, in the special legal sense of the phrase, as having to do with overt behavior rather than psychological predispositions and such."
— Renegades of Gor, p.372

It should be noted here that we are shown quite explicitly -in the words of John Norman- that a woman cannot be reduced to slavery by mere thoughts, she must carry out overt action. So any man can collar a woman he finds acting in a slave-like manner, yes? Actually: no.

"…in some cities a free woman who might be found with bared legs is taken in hand by magistrates, tried and sentenced to bondage. After the judge's decision has been enacted, its effect carried out upon her, reducing her to the status of goods, sometimes publicly, that she may be suitably disgraced, sometimes privately, by a contract slaver, that the sensitivities of free women in the city not be offended, she is hooded and transported, stripped and chained, freshly branded, a property female, slave cargo, to a distant market where, once sold, she will begin her life anew, fearfully, as a purchased girl, tremulously as the helpless and lowly slave she is."
— Mercenaries of Gor, 5:69

We see here that the woman must be found guilty of having acted as a slave, by a city official/magistrate, before she can be enslaved. No man can collar a Free Woman simply because he thinks she is acting as a slave, it must be proven in court.

Also an important note: when a woman is reduced to slavery, she always is removed from her Home Stone and transported to another place far away where she will begin her new life. This prevents the discomfort of the Home Stone population should she remain there. In other words: A collared woman must be sent away and does not remain in the home city where she was a free.

*** CAPTURE EXAMPLES ***
"You understand further, of course," said he, "that under Gorean merchant law, which is the only law commonly acknowledged binding between cities, that you stand under separate permissions of enslavement. First, were you of Ar, it would be my right, could I be successful, to make of you a slave, for we share no Home Stone. Secondly, though you speak of yourself as the Lady Elicia of Ar, of Six Towers, you are, in actuality, Miss Elicia Nevins of the planet Earth. You are an Earth girl and thus stand within a general permission of enslavement, fair beauty quarry to any Gorean male whatsoever.
— Slave Girl of Gor, p 394

This introduced the concept of "PERMISSIONS OF ENSLAVEMENT".  In other words, since she no longer has a home stone and laws to protect her, she stands under "permission of enslavement", and he is within his right to legally collar her. Here she is also found to be from Earth, and have no home stone anyway, so stands under another "permission of enslavement". This is one of the very few times a man can legally collar a woman on his own without the benefit of a legal decision.

Important to note that this does not mean a woman of a home stone in another city falls under this rule. That is false. As long as a woman has a home stone, she is protected from this "clause" no matter where she is, as long as she is inside the walls of another city. Only a woman without any home stone (if a city or town is destroyed or captured, the home stone is considered non-existent at that point) may be collared under this law, or if not within the walls of a city (only cities recognize home stones).

The single, odd side note to capture is the collaring of a woman for whom a man has saved her life:

"And yet it was not a strange thing, particularly not on Gor, where bravery is highly esteemed and to save a female's life is in effect to win title to it, for it is the option of a Gorean male to enslave any woman whose life he has saved, a right which is seldom denied even by the citizens of the girl's city or her family. Indeed, there have been cases in which a girl's brothers have had her clad as a slave, bound in slave bracelets, and handed over to her rescuer, in order that the honor of the family and her city not be besmirched"
—Priest Kings of Gor - 20:161-162

This is the only time a collared woman will remain in her home stone as a slave and not be sent away.

All of this tells us about the acceptable reasons for collaring a Free Woman. This brings us to the matter of being mouthy, annoying, aggressive, challenging, and several other adjectives. The books tell us much concerning this.

"Whereas a free woman may often make a man angry with impunity, she being lofty and free, this latitude is seldom extended to the slave."
—Blood Brothers or Gor - Page 221

"Beware your words," I cautioned her.
"I am a free woman," she said. "I can speak as I please."
I could not gainsay her in this. She was free. She could, accordingly, say what she wished, and without requiring permission.
—Mercenaries of Gor - Page 7

"This type of response, however natural on Earth in such a situation, would not be feasible on Gor in a slave. Gorean free women, of course, may do what they wish. The slave girl, on the other hand, does not compete with the master, but serves him."
—Explorers of Gor - Page 39

This brings us to a story that takes place describing the actions of Free Women, as they try to destroy a tavern:

...Once in Ar, several years ago, several free women, in their anger at slaves, and perhaps jealous of the pleasures of masters and slaves, entered a paga tavern with clubs and axes, seeking to destroy it. This is, I believe, an example, though a rather extreme one, of a not unprecedented sort of psychological reaction, the attempt, by disparagement or action, motivated by envy, jealousy, resentment, or such, to keep from others pleasures which one oneself is unable, or unwilling, to enjoy. In any event, as a historical note, the men in the tavern, being Gorean, and thus not being inhibited or confused by negativistic, anti-biological traditions, quickly disarmed the women.
They then stripped them, bound their hands behind their back, put them on a neck rope, and, by means of switches, conducted them swiftly outside the tavern. The women were then, outside the tavern, on the bridge of twenty lanterns, forced to witness the burning of their garments. They were then permitted to leave, though still bound and in coffle. Gorean men do not surrender their birthright as males, their rightful dominance, their appropriate mastery. They do not choose to be dictated to by females.
Notice that even though they attempted to destroy property, carried tools, and were a threat to men, they were NOT collared. They were chastised, punished, and sent on their way, having learned better. Even in a severe case like this, they were not collared.
Further, we find evidence that Free Women were treated with great respect:
The men, save I, rose as one to their feet, for Gorean men commonly stand when a free woman enters a room.
—Guardsman of Gor - Page 255

ATTENTION free women and free men: a collar is not required to discipline (not punish) a free woman as the example above. However, discipline can be taken much further - for force a woman to act as a slave - an no, she cannot be accused of this when forced into it. A free woman can be forced to kneel, give obeisance, even to take the "belly" position like a slave or face the consequences of a real and permanent collar for refusing to obey:

" 'Perform obeisance,' I said.
`I am a free woman!' she said.
`Out of your own mouth you have said it,' I said. `You are a woman.'
`I do not know how to do so!' she said.
`There are many ways to perform obeisance.' I said.
`I am a free woman,' she said, `I know none of them.'
`I shall instruct you briefly in three,' I said. `First, kneel before me, back on your heels, yes, with your knees wide, wider, your hands on your thighs, your back straight, your breasts out, good, your belly in, good, and now lower your head in deference, in submission.'
    `Like a slave!' she said.
`Do it,' I said. She looked well. `Now that,' I said, `may not be exactly a performance of obeisance, for authorities do not all agree, but for our purposes we shall count it as one. It is, at any rate, a beautiful position, and it is, certainly, a common position of slave submission.'
    `Slave submission!' she cried.
`Yes,' I said, `and you do it well. It looks natural on you.'
'Now' I said, `and this is clearly a form of obeisance, bend forward and put your head to the mat, the palms of your hands on the mat. Good. Now lift your head little and come forward, substantially keeping the position. Forward a little more.'
`But then my face will be at your feet,' she said, `My lips will be over them!'
`Yes,' I said, `Good, now, put your head down and lick and kiss my feet.'
`I am a free woman!' she said.
`You are a woman,' I said. `Now softly, lingeringly, and lovingly, Good.'
`I am not a slave,' she said.
`All women are slaves,' I said. `Imagine what this would be like if you were truly a collared slave.' She gasped.
`Good,' I said. `Continue.' Frightened, she did so.
`Now,' I said, `for a third form of obeisance. You may "belly" to me.'
`I do not understand,' she whispered.
`There are various forms of bellying,' I said, `and bellying may be suitably and pleasingly combined with other forms of floor movements, approaching the Master on all fours, turning to your sides and back, writhing before him, and so on. We shall take a very simple variation, suitable for an ignorant free female who has not yet even begun to discover the depths of her sexuality.' She looked up at me. `On your belly,' I said. She backed off a bit, and went to her belly. Her hair was before her face, as she now, on her belly before me, looked up at me. `Now inch forward,' I said, `remaining low though you were a slave, lick and kiss them. Good. Good. Now take my foot and place it gently on your head. Very good. Now place it again on the Mat, and kiss it again. Good. You may now belly back a little, humbly. I have not yet given you permission to rise, of course."
—Mercenaries of Gor  pg(s) 409-411

Among all this, it also is important that women are highly respected and paid courtesy to in general:

Free women, in being free, command attention when they speak. It is their due.
—Explorers of Gor - Page 354

**********
Given the weight of evidence, and the dearth of evidence to the contrary, I find it likely that no man would or even could (legally speaking) collar a Woman of his own home stone without obvious evidence that she was acting in a slave-like manner, and he would then turn her over to the magistrate for a decision on the matter.

Further, it seems quite likely and in fact required that a man of a home defend the Free Women of the city with his life, if need be. He would defend her from collaring by outsiders, and even those within his own home who may be acting inappropriately.

Free Men Guidelines

Tahari men, like Goreans in general, are patient, extremely proud, easily offended men, with a touchy sense of honor. They enjoy war. A rumor of an insult or outrage, not inquired closely into, perhaps by intent, will suffice to excite them to war. Most large scale Tahari battles devolve into a melee of individual combats. The names of leaders do not figure into the war cries of the Tahari tribes for it is the tribe that is significant. The cry of the Aretai is "Aretai victorious" and that of the Kavar is "Kavars supreme." It is difficult to maintain a lengthy siege in the Tahari as food supplies at an oasis are short, except for the stores in the Kasbah. Supply lines are also long and difficult to defend. Thus, sieges are rare. "The forms change but, in the Tahari, as elsewhere, order, justice and law rest ultimately upon the determination of men, and steel." (Tribesman of Gor)

Appropriate Dress - Free men of Teehra must dress according to the ways of the Tahari.  Visiting free men are strongly encouraged to dress appropriately for the desert climate.

Examples of appropriate dress in the Tahari:

Head scarf/Wrapped Turban - usually made of repcloth and wrapped around the head. Worn by lower class Men which also cushions items carried on the head.

He wore a head scarf, the wrapped turban, wound about his head. It was of rep-cloth. It protects the head from the sun; its folds allow beat and perspiration to escape, evaporating, and, of course, air to enter and circulate. Among lower-class males, too, it provides a soft cushion, on which boxes, and other burdens, may be conveniently carried on the head, steadied by the right hand. ~Tribesmen of Gor

Djellaba - striped, hooded, loose fitting robe.

A merchant passed me, climbing the stones of the street. He wore a striped, hooded, sleeved, loose robe, a djellaba. The striping was that of the Teehra, a district southwest of Tor, bordering on the Tahari.~Tribesmen of Gor

Burnoose - sleeveless, hooded desert cloaks, preferred by Those wielding scimitars.

Djellabas and burnooses, sleeveless, hooded desert cloaks, were being sold in another stall. The burnoose can, as the djellaba cannot, because of the sleeves, be thrown back, freeing the arms. One who rides the swift kaiila, who handles the scimitar and lance, chooses the burnoose. ~Tribesman of Gor

Kaffiyeh - scarf worn around the head.
Agal - cord used to hold the kaffiyeh in place

He wore the kaffiyeh and agal, the cording that of the Aretai.~Tribesmen of Gor

The Salt Bond  - "Let there be salt between us" states an intent to form a close bond with another, a brotherhood of sorts. Salt is placed on the back of each man's wrist. The two men then dip their tongues in the other man's salt. This bond is apparently even stronger than the bond of a man to his tribes. "It is a hard choice you impose upon me," said Hassan, "to choose between my brother and my tribe." Then he said, "I am of the Tahari. I must choose my brother." ~Tribesman of Gor p.277~

Water - "In sharing their water I had made myself, by custom of the Tahari, their guest." (Tribesman of Gor p.143).

Guest Rights Once a person has become a guest, neither the guest can harm his host nor the host harm his guest for the length of the guest's stay.

Weapons -The weapons of a tribesman is the scimitar and the lance and they fight from the back of a kaiila. Bows are not often used and men in the Tahari are not very skilled with it.

Collaring Free Women - Norman was very clear on those behaviors that would place a woman in a position to be collared, and for the process of doing so.

In short, there are three situations a woman may find herself in that will lead to enslavement; legal proceeding at the decree of the Magistrate or Pasha if convicted of a crime, conduct becoming of a slave, or exhibiting a slave nature and capture, a woman taken when her home stone is destroyed, or as the spoil of a raid or war.

It is very unlikely that a man would or even could (legally speaking) collar a Woman of his own home stone without obvious evidence that she was acting in a slave-like manner, and he would then turn her over to the magistrate for a decision on the matter.

Further, it seems quite likely and in fact required that a man of a home defend the Free Women of the city with his life, if need be. He would defend her from collaring by outsiders, and even those within his own home who may be acting inappropriately.

Slaves - Only a dishonorable man would make use of another's property without permission. Slaves that are assumed to be available sexually are cafe -not inn- slaves and coin girls. Anything else you should assume is someone's property. Owners should keep slaves not available for general usage but who are serving in a cafe or bath house belted.

"Please, Master," she said, "take pity on me. Take pity on the miserable needs of a girl."
"You are not mine," I told her. "You are a pretty little thing, but I do not own you."
"Please," she said.
"Your master," I said, "if he chooses, will satisfy your needs. If he does not, he will not."
For all I knew she might be under the discipline of deprivation. If that were so, I had no wish to impair the effectiveness of her master's control over her. Besides I did not know him. I did not wish to do him dishonor, whoever he might be." (Beasts of Gor)

"What if she were seized by one not her master?"
"The same," said he. "No more than a verr or tarsk. But in such a case the master might object, and take action, perhaps charging a coin for the girl's use, or perhaps killing the thief."
"The thief?"
"Surely, has he not availed himself of another's property without authorization, has he not stolen a use?" (Kur of Gor)

Slave Guidelines

Community standards - In order to ensure that all slaves meet the expected  standards of acceptable conduct in Teehra, all slaves entering the city, regardless of ownership will be expected to participate in the standards below.

Appropriate dress -  Slaves of Teehra must dress according to the ways of the Tahari. Visiting slaves are strongly encouraged to adopt similar dress

You are discouraged from roaming in the open completely naked and without shoes.  It is HOT in the Tahari and the sun is merciless, it is very unlikely that you will be unscathed if you should roam around for any period of time undressed.

You are encouraged to dress in a haik, as is considered appropriate btb as described by Norman in Tribesman, when outside of the confines of the buildings.

Examples of appropriate dress in the Tahari:

Haik - Same as that worn for a Free Woman, however slaves are naked beneath except for their collar and brand.

"Stand here," I told Miss Blake-Allen, indicating a place in the center of the floor, before the desk of the slave master. She stood where I had indicated. "Remove your slippers," I told her. She slipped from the slippers, black with silver thread. She was now barefoot. The slave master came around to the front of his desk. He leaned back against it, sitting on its edge. "Remove the haik," I told the girl. She removed the garment. She stood between us, nude. ~Tribesmen of Gor

Following him was a woman, in a black haik. Suddenly I was startled. As she passed me, her stride small and measured, I heard the clink of a light chain, the sound of ankle bells. She was a slave beneath the haik, I supposed her collared, naked. ~ Tribesman of Gor

Skirts
Blouse
Jacket

She wore a long, bordered skirt, with scarlet thread at its hem, which swirled as she turned; she wore a jacket, tan, of soft kaiila-hair cloth, taken from the animal's second coat, which had a hood, which she had thrown back; beneath the jacket she wore a cheap, printed blouse of rep-cloth, blue and yellow, which well clung to her.~ Tribesmen of Gor

Slippers - Same as that worn for a Free Woman, potentially less ornate.

Chalwars - Diaphanous trousers gathered at the ankles worn with a sash and a silk vest showing a bare midriff. Slave veil may also be worn.

From one side a slave girl, barefoot, bangled, in sashed, diaphanous, trousered chalwar, gathered at the ankles, in tight, red-silk vest, with bare midriff, fled to him, with the tall, graceful, silvered pot-containing the black wine. She was veiled. She knelt, replenishing the drink. Beneath her veil I saw the metal of her collar.~ Tribesmen of Gor

...she wore the sashed chalwar, a sashed, diaphanous trousered garment, full but gathered in, closely, at the ankles... ~ Tribesman of Gor

Slave Djellaba - loose fitting robe, made of repcloth, cut high on the thighs and used for sleeping.

At a watering hole, from a nomad, I purchased Alyena a brief second-hand, black-and-white-striped, rep-cloth slave djellaba. It came high on her thighs. This was that she would have something in which to sleep.~ Tribesmen of Gor

Slave Veils - single veil, diaphanous material. A provocative display to Free Men.

The slave veil is a mockery, in its way. It reveals, as much as conceals, yet it adds a touch of subtlety, mystery; slave veils are made to be torn away, the lips of the master then crushing those of the slave. ~Tribesman of Gor

Walking Chain - used to train slaves to walk with a measured gait

The use of a light walking chain, tethering the ankles, meant to be worn abroad, accompanying the master, incidentally, is not uncommon in the regions of the Tahari. A beautifully measured gait is thought, in the Tahari, to be attractive in a woman.~Tribesman of Gor

Earrings

"I see, pretty Alyena," I said, "you now wear earrings."

They were golden loops, large, barbaric. They fell beside her neck.~Tribesman of Gor

Bangles - bracelets.

"More, Masters?" asked the girl, kneeling beside the low, tem-wood-inlaid table. She wore a high, red-silk vest, swelling, fastened with a single hook; diaphanous red-silk chalwar, low on her hips, gathered at the ankles; two golden bangles on her left ankle; collar.~Tribesman of Gor

Dancing Chains

"What shall I do, Master?" she begged. She wore a golden metal dancing collar about her throat, golden chains looped from her wrists, gracefully to the collar ring, then fell to her ankles; there are varieties of Tahari dancing chains;she wore the oval and collar; briefly, in readying a girl, after she has been belled and silked, and bangled, and has been made up, and touched with slave perfume, she kneels, head down in a large oval of light gleaming chain, extending her wrists before her; fastened at the sides of the top of the oval are two wrist rings, at the sides of the lower loop of the oval two ankle rings; the oval is then pulled inward and the wrist and ankle rings fastened on the slave; her throat is then locked in the dancing collar, which has, under the chin, an open snap ring: with the left hand the oval is then gathered together, so the two strands of chain lie in the palm of the left hand, whence, lifted, they are placed inside the snap ring, which is then snapped shut, and locked; the two strands of chain flow freely in the snap ring; accordingly, though the girl's wrists and ankles are fastened at generous, though inflexible limits from one another, usually about a yard for the wrists and about eighteen inches for the ankles, much of the chain may be played through, and back through, the collar ring; this permits a skillful girl a great deal of beautiful chain work: the oval and collar is traditional in the Tahari; it enhances a girl's beauty; it interferes little with her dance, though it imposes subtle, sensuous limits upon it; a good dancer uses these limits, exploiting them deliciously; for example, she may extend a wrist, subtly holding the chain at her waist with her other hand; the chain slides through the ring, yet short of the expected movement; the chain stops her wrist; her wrist rebels, but is helpless; it must yield; her head falls; she is a chained slave girl. ~Tribesman of Gor

Kneeling - Slaves in Teehra should not kneel when outside of buildings in the sand. The sand is HOT and you can be injured! However slaves must kneel in the presence of the free inside of buildings and if commanded to.

-Slaves will tower in the presence of Free Women even if a Free Man is present unless the slave is ordered to do otherwise.

"The sand, struck by the sun, can reach temperatures on its surface of more than 175 degrees Fahrenheit.....Only a foot or two below the surface, these temperatures are reduced by more than fifty degrees....The air temperature is seldom more than 140 degrees in the shade, even in the dune country." (Tribesmen of Gor)

"Incidentally," I said, "when you kneel before the free woman, in your carefully prepared modest garb, fit for a lowly slave, as you must soon do, to convey to her the message which will be inserted in the message tube about your neck, be certain to kneel with your knees closely together."
"Certainly, Master," she said. "She is a female, not a male."
"But even more importantly," I said, "insofar as you can, before her, and before any other free woman who might be in attendance upon her, conceal your
sexuality. Do not let them suspect it. Let them think that you are as inert and meaningless as they are." (Magicians of Gor)

"She kept her knees tightly together before the free woman. Had she knelt before a man she would probably have had to keep them open, even if they were brutally kicked apart, a lesson to her, to be more sensitive as to before whom she knelt.” (Witness of Gor)

Obedience - A slave entering this sim should be aware they are expected to obey all free within the boundaries of restriction and silk status and can be punished by any free. If this is unacceptable to you or your owner you are not forced to remain here.

“The discipline of a slave,” I said, “may be attended to by any free person, otherwise she might do much what she wished, provided only her master did not learn of it.” The legal principle was clear, and had been upheld in several courts, in several cities, including Ar." (Magicians of Gor)

Note: Only a dishonorable man would make use of another's property without permission.

Runaway or Unowned Slaves - A slave that is a runway of another City or Gorean Master, or, one it is determined is unowned will be detained here as customary within the SL Community and can be retrieved within five days. On the sixth day, the slave will begin training to meet our community standards. Upon completion of the community standards, the slave will be available for sale.

Abandoned property - A slave that has been present in SL as is normal for them and has not seen or been contacted by their owner for more than 14 days is considered abandoned and becomes the property of the City of Teehra. If the slave has already successfully completed the standard training for the city, that slave will be available for sale. If not, the slave will complete the standard training and then be made available to the community.

Rape - There is much controversy surrounding the word "rape". Gorean rape is the use of a slave. It is not the equivalent of earth rape, try not to confuse the two.

"With respect to the more general sense of 'slave rape,'" he said, "putting aside the legalities, and such, the expression, I think, is intended to suggest the rightlessness of the slave, and her subjectability to the least whim of the master." (Kur of Gor)
"There is a broad sense of the term 'slave rape', of course," said Cabot, "in which all usages of a slave, all uses of her, are in a sense slave rape, as her usages are not at her will but solely at the will of the master." (Kur of Gor)

"Whereas one speaks commonly of "slave rape," that usually means little more than using them as one wishes, unilaterally, peremptorily, forcibly, and such. Technically, it is not clear that one can rape a slave, any more than one could rape a verr or tarsk. In a legal sense, a slave cannot be raped, no more than any other domestic animal." (Mariners of Gor)
